Leave the Pertouli Meadows behind and climb into the mountains on a demanding guided hike from Agia Kyriaki towards Bountoura, finishing in the village of Pertouli.

The route begins near the small chapel of Agia Kyriaki, surrounded by the open meadows below Pertouli. Almost immediately, the trail enters the dense fir forest managed by the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki and begins a sustained ascent into the mountain.

Forest roads and narrower paths lead steadily higher through one of the most characteristic landscapes of the area. As altitude increases, the dense forest gradually begins to open, revealing more rugged terrain and wider views across the surrounding mountains.

The route continues through the Bountoura area, where the landscape feels increasingly remote and the character of the hike changes from sheltered forest walking to a more demanding mountain experience.

From the higher terrain, begin the descent towards Pertouli, gradually leaving the exposed slopes behind and returning beneath the fir trees.

After several hours on the trail, the route finishes in Pertouli village, completing a journey from the open meadows through deep forest and into the higher reaches of the mountain.

With steep sections, sustained elevation gain and rough terrain, this is a difficult hike intended for participants with good physical fitness and previous experience of longer mountain walks.

Challenging but Beautiful

This was definitely the most demanding hike we did around Pertouli, but also one of the most rewarding. The climb through the forest was beautiful and the higher sections opened up to fantastic mountain views.

A Proper Mountain Hike

A great route if you want something more challenging than a simple forest walk. The ascent was tough in places, but our guide kept a steady pace and gave us plenty of time to enjoy the scenery.

From Deep Forest to Open Mountain

I really liked how much the landscape changed during the hike. We started among dense fir trees and gradually climbed into much more open mountain terrain. It felt remote and adventurous without needing any technical climbing.
