One mountain.
Four completely different journeys.
The landscape keeps changing.
So does the reason to come.
Pertouli is shaped by the seasons more dramatically than almost anywhere on the Thessalian plain below it. At more than 1,000 metres above sea level, snow, rain, temperature and light continually redraw the landscape — transforming the village, the fir forest and the open Pertouli Meadows throughout the year.
Winter is the season that made Pertouli famous, when snow covers the meadows and the Ski Center comes alive. But when the white landscape retreats, it reveals an entirely different destination. Forest paths reopen, streams run strongly through the mountains and the meadows become a vast natural space for walking, riding and exploring. The Pertouli Meadows are promoted for hiking, mountain biking and wildlife observation throughout spring, summer and autumn.
There is no single moment when Pertouli is at its best. Each season changes what you see, how you move through the landscape and even the pace of the villages around it.
The question is not when to come.
It is which Pertouli you want to discover first.
The snow retreats.
The mountains begin again.
Spring arrives gradually in Pertouli. Snow remains on the higher peaks while the lower forest begins to change beneath it. Streams fill with meltwater, the meadows return to green and the mountains slowly reopen after winter.
It is a season of movement and contrast. Cool mornings can still feel distinctly alpine, yet every week reveals more colour across the landscape. Forest roads become accessible again, walking routes reopen and water runs through places that remain dry or quiet later in the year.
The Pertouli Meadows are especially inviting during this period. Their gentle terrain makes them suitable for relaxed walking and family exploration, while trails extending towards Koziakas offer longer routes for visitors looking to venture higher.
Spring is also one of the quieter times to visit. The winter crowds have gone and the busiest summer period has not yet begun. For travellers who prefer open trails, fresh mountain air and the feeling of watching a landscape wake up around them, it may be Pertouli’s most rewarding season.
Best for: Hiking, flowing water, quiet escapes & fresh mountain landscapes
Long days outdoors.
Cool air beneath the trees.
When the plains of Thessaly heat up, Pertouli offers something completely different. Altitude and forest bring cooler temperatures, shaded trails and evenings when the mountain air encourages you to stay outside a little longer.
The meadows become the centre of outdoor life. Hiking, mountain biking, horse riding, archery and ATV adventures all take advantage of the open terrain and surrounding forest, while more demanding trails climb towards the higher slopes of Koziakas.
Summer is also when the wider mountain region feels most alive. Roads towards Neraidochori and Aspropotamos are easier to explore, seasonal villages fill again and festivals bring music, food and gatherings back into communities that can be remarkably quiet during winter.
Among the most distinctive summer traditions is the Panhellenic Sarakatsani Gathering, held in the Pertouli Meadows and celebrating pastoral heritage through music, dancing and cultural reenactments.
For some visitors, summer in Pertouli is about activity. For others, it is simply an escape: a table beneath the trees, a slow walk through the forest and the rare pleasure of needing a light layer after sunset in the middle of a Greek summer.
Best for: Outdoor adventure, road trips, festivals & cool mountain escapes
The crowds fade.
The landscape takes over.
Autumn arrives quietly. Days begin to shorten, mornings become colder and patches of gold, amber and red appear among the deep green of the fir forest.
The contrast gives Pertouli a completely different atmosphere. Mist often hangs between the trees, the roads become quieter and familiar viewpoints feel changed beneath softer light. Around the village and meadows, deciduous trees add bursts of colour against the evergreen slopes.
This is still a season for being outdoors. Hiking, horse riding, mountain biking and exploring the meadows remain possible before winter conditions arrive, while cooler temperatures make longer days on foot particularly comfortable. Visit Greece specifically presents the Pertouli Meadows as an outdoor destination through spring, summer and autumn.
Autumn also lends itself to a slower kind of journey. Drive between the mountain villages, stop for long lunches, walk without a particular destination and return before dark as the temperature begins to fall.
There is anticipation in the landscape at this time of year.
Winter is coming — but the mountain has one more version of itself to reveal first.
Best for: Forest colours, photography, hiking & quiet mountain weekends
Snow beneath the firs.
Adventure in the cold.
Winter transforms Pertouli completely. Snow settles across the village roofs, blankets the open meadows and reaches deep into the surrounding fir forest, turning familiar roads and trails into a quieter, more dramatic mountain landscape.
At the heart of the season is Pertouli Ski Center, set at approximately 1,200 metres within the meadows. Its compact pistes make it particularly approachable for families and beginners, while ski lessons, equipment rental and facilities at the base make it easy to spend a full day in the snow.
But winter here extends well beyond the slopes. Horse riding through snowy meadows, ATV adventures, snowmobiles and walks beneath snow-covered fir trees offer different ways to experience the landscape. And sometimes the best part comes afterwards — returning to the village, finding somewhere warm and letting the mountain slow the rest of the day down.
Winter is Pertouli at its most dramatic: crisp mornings, short days, smoke rising above village roofs and a forest that seems to absorb every sound.
Best for: Skiing, snow adventures, cosy escapes & winter landscapes
Come for one season.
Return for another.
Winter brings snow and energy. Spring brings water and renewal. Summer opens the mountains for long days of exploration, while autumn slows everything beneath changing colours.
The landmarks may remain the same, but the experience does not. The Pertouli Meadows, the forest, the village and the roads deeper into Pindus take on a different character every few months.
